What is pronation? Could it contribute to my knee pain?
Pronation is the body’s way of absorbing shock. Everyone pronates; they land on the outside of their heel, and roll over to their big toe. Pronation also causes your leg to internally rotate. This rolling decreases or absorbs the forces of walking/ running. Pronation is not a problem. Overpronation can be a problem. It can contribute to patellar pain, arthritis pain, and “Runners’ Knee” or distal IT band tendonitis.
